(MATH) Calculus I

Calculus. Early Transcendentals, 8th edition, by James Stewart.



DESCRIPTION

This course will include fundamental concepts of analytic geometry and calculus; functions, graphs, limits, derivatives and integrals.

Unit I: Limits And Derivatives
Unit 2: Differentiation Rules
Unit 3: Applications Of Differentiation
Unit 4: Integrals



STUDENT LEARNING/COURSE OUTCOMES

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
• Demonstrate an understanding of concepts and terminology of limits through applications and examples;
• Compute the derivative of a function using the definition, rules of differentiation, slopes
• of tangent lines, and describe it as a rate of change in number of natural and physical phenomena;
• Compute basic integrals using Riemann sums as well as the Fundamental Theorem of
• Calculus.



ASSESSMENT/GRADES

-Quizzes (10%) - the best 5 will count. No make-up quizzes.
-Homework (15%) - late homework not accepted but drop the lowest score.
-Tests (50%) - no make-up tests.
-Final exam (25%)
A scientific calculator may be used during the tests and the final exam.
Computers, graphing calculators, smartphones, iPods, iPads etc. are prohibited on all exams
Attendance is required and is checked daily.
