DESCRIPTION

This course will develop student understanding of topics related to contemporary Spanish
culture and civilization. Students will build a strong theoretical and historical foundation to
effectively analyze life in Spain in the present, and the changes that have taken place in society
related politics, religion, economy, and society.

1. Geography of Spain: Map, Climate & Autonomous Communities
2. History of Spain: Origin, Democratization & Contemporary Spain
3. The Spanish Society: Family, Work environment, Education System & Leisure
4. Spanish Culture: Linguistic diversity, Folklore, Traditions, Art & Music
5.Every day life



STUDENT LEARNING/COURSE OUTCOMES

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
• Examine and explain key moments and themes in the cultural history of Spain.
• Define and analyze the political and cultural contexts in which important works of art and literature were created.
• Demonstrate an understanding of Spain’s diversity.
• Analyze relevant primary and secondary sources to develop and support a historical argument through the completion of a research paper.
