DESCRIPTION

This advanced course of Spanish has been designed for students who may manage in daily tasks and interactions but they still need to improve their control over different oral and written registers. This course will offer them the opportunity to enhance their vocabulary in specific and technical areas, and to improve grammatical accuracy in their oral and written expression.



OUTLINE

SPANISH:
UNIDAD 1. Léxico del trabajo, profesiones poco comunes, refranes sobre el trabajo.
UNIDAD 2. Léxico de la literatura, expresiones idiomáticas del ámbito de la literatura.
UNIDAD 3. Léxico de la salud, expresiones relacionadas con la comida.
UNIDAD 4. Léxico del mundo empresarial, refranes y expresiones sobre el dinero.
UNIDAD 5. recursos humorísticos, expresiones idiomáticas que invitan al humor, chistes



STUDENT LEARNING/COURSE OUTCOMES

After the successful completion of Track IV, the student will be able to:
• Write clear, well-structured texts on cultural topics in an appropriate style with good grammatical control.
• Display a good understanding of humor, irony and implicit cultural references in oral and written texts.
• Identify and describe the generalizations that rule language use.
• Put together information about a cultural topic from different sources (internet, printed material, interviews with local people or observations) and relate it in a coherent final paper.
• Give a clear, well-structured presentation on the investigated cultural topic, expanding and supporting points of view with appropriate reasons and examples.
• Display a good command of a broad vocabulary, including collocations and idiomatic expressions.
• Choose among the different ways of saying things, depending on the person the student is talking to and the perceived context.
• Appraise the esthetic value of artistic products, particularly literary texts, movies, paintings, buildings, etc. of the target language community.

• Midterm: 25% + final exam: 25% = 50%
• Readers: 15%
• project: 15%
• Homework: 10%
• Class participation: 10%
Attending class is MANDATORY in this course
